9-11
by Ted McMahon
Just today, four days after the attack, my eyes tear up when Ray Charles sings "America the Beautiful" on oldies radio. I have to stop the car. From sea to shining sea we try to comprehend the world has changed. Perhaps it takes a jet-fuel inferno, 1600 degrees to purge our petty hates, our puerile road-rage. Soon we'll have burned clean, bright with resolve to change the old world order. Pray it is done with mercy for the wide-eyed children. Pray it is done with mercy.
