The It's About Time Writers Reading Series exists for all those who want to write.  It is dedicated to the memory of Anna Helfgottt, (1899-1996), a Gray Panther, who began writing after age 70, & to the memory of  Nelson Bentley (1918-1990), the quintessential teacher who gave Anna, & scores of others, help & hope. It's About Time is dedicated to an end of racism, homelessness, homophobia & war.

FEATURED SPEAKER ~ Marjorie Rommel  ~ on THE WRITER'S CRAFT

Marjorie Rommel lives in Auburn, Washington. A newspaper reporter and editor for many years, she now works as photographer/media relations consultant for the City of Auburn. She teaches at Highline College, Pierce College, and Pacific Lutheran University, where she is a member of the Rainier Writing Workshop Low Residency MFA Program inaugural class. She was a 2000 Willard R. Espy Literary Foundation resident, and received an Adam Family Foundation White Bridge Traveling Fellowship in 2001.

Holly Thomas works as a technical editor by day, by night she writes poetry and nonfiction. She  also paints to explore the creative edge. Her poem Chiapas was selected in 2003 for the Poets Against the War anthology edited by Sam Hamill for the Nation Press, and her poems The Hapless Waxwing and In the Bamboo, Waiting" are forthcoming in Tundra Journal and the Hawaii Pacific Review. She's working on her first chapbook, under the working title, Manna.  Holly moved to Seattle in 1996 after 13 years as a land use and environmental planner in New York's mid-Hudson Valley.

Alma Maria Rolfs is a psychotherapist, teacher, poet and poetry therapist.  She has a full-time private psychotherapy practice, teaches part-time in the Department of Psychology at Antioch University, and conducts a poetry therapy training program. She served on the Board of the National Association for Poetry Therapy for many years and is currently on the Editorial Board of Arts in Psychotherapy Journal.  All her work is informed by a belief in the inherently curative potential of  creativity and empathic connection, and a conviction that words can create the bridge and the environment in which healing and growth can flourish. She will be reading from her chapbook, Opening Again to Music, which is a tribute to her son Jeremy who died in 1997, and an example of Alma's commitment to be there with words.

Crysta Casey was put on a military psych. ward after declaring herself a "Resident  Poet" while serving in the Marine Corps.  She is still under the delusion  that she is a poet.  Crysta has been published in The  Monthly Review,  Fine Madness, Kansas/Arkansaas Quarterly, The Seattle Reviw, Pontoon,  ONTHEBUS, Chrysanthemum, and has contributed to Real Change, a paper to empower the homeless in  Seattle. Her first book is "Heart Clinic" (Bellowing Ark Press, 1993).  She is a winner of the Richard  Hugo Prize.
